ABOUT THIS WEBINAR

Join GCSE Geography expert examiner, teacher and Head of Department, Jon Briggs for an opportunity to really develop exam techniques and skills that will ensure progression to the higher levels of the mark scheme in the exam.

Focus will be given on how to extend performance in the full range of response questions (with and without resources) – how students should aim to plan and structure questions. What content they should be adding to answers and how to link back to the question.

A secondary focus will be the qualities of what an outstanding response should look like.

Learning skills. How to prioritise the right things in revision

• How to revise content that links to expectations in the exam.
• Revising with a purpose.
• Choosing correct option questions.
• Useful sites for revision.

4.05 – 4.20pm

Key things to prepare and to perfect in the short answer and skills questions

• Skills needed for all sections (OS, graphs, maps, photographs, numeracy)
• Definition style questions.
• Developing sequenced answers that include relevant key terms and explanations.
• How to analyse and use information from figures within answers.
• Student Activity: Sequencing activity and use of a resource.
• Key tips.

4.20 – 4.55pm

8m analyse (resource where applicable) and 8m assess/evaluate questions:

• Understanding the command words. Effective deconstruction of questions.
• Examples of how to structure responses and write in a balanced yet evaluative style.
• Linking to the resource (where applicable)
• Student Activity: Reviewing responses – what are the indicators of a L1, L2 and L3 response.
• How to structure the perfect response.
