Join GCSE Geography expert examiner, teacher and Head of Department, Jon Briggs for an opportunity to really develop exam techniques and skills that will ensure progression to the higher levels of the mark scheme in the exam. Focus will be given on how to extend performance in the 4m, 6m and 9m responses (with and without resources) – how students should aim to plan and structure questions. Key things to prepare and to perfect in 4m and 6m explanation responses:
- What examiners are looking for in developing an excellent answer: breadth v depth.
- Developing sequenced answers that include relevant key terms and explanations.
- How to analyse and use information from figures within answers.
- Student Activity: Sequencing activity and use of a resource.
- Key tips.
6m and 9m evaluative/assess style questions:
- Understanding the command words. Effective deconstruction of questions.
- Examples of how to structure responses and write in a balanced yet evaluative style.
- Student Activity: Reviewing responses – what are the indicators of a L1, L2 and L3 response.
- How to structure the perfect response.
Final tips to do your very best. 5.25 - 5.30pm

Jon Briggs has been tutoring A-Level and GCSE Geography students for over 10 years, clocking up well over 5,000 hours of tutoring, benefitting students across the private and state sectors from places a far afield as Hong Kong, Dubai, Malaysia, and the USA. He has been a teacher for nearly 30 years in both the state and private sector, with over 21 years of his career as either a lead practitioner, head of department and faculty. Since 2002 he has been an exam and team leader for GCSE and A-Level for a range of exam boards (AQA, Edexcel and CIE). He loves the subject, whether it be Physical or Human Geography and enjoys working with students of all abilities to prepare them for exam success!
