ABOUT THIS WEBINAR

This webinar will focus on the first compulsory strand from the AQA A level syllabus – it will draw out the key features from the three set works in this area, as well as highlighting the typical features of the Baroque concerto looking to prepare students for effective responses to the analysis and unprepared listening questions.

PROGRAMME | 3.30 - 5.00pm

3.30 - 3.50pm: Ritornello
  • An introduction to ritornello form and its use in the set works: examining the key features of this form; how it was established and used in the Vivaldi Il gardellino and Bach’s development of the form and innovations in the Violin Concerto in A minor.

3.50 - 4.10pm: Context
  • Considering context – other examples of ritornello form in Baroque concerto to use for wider listening and applying key features in preparation for 10-mark unprepared listening.

4.10 - 4.35pm: Baroque Harmony
  • Exploring Baroque harmony; looking at key points from the set works to illustrate the main features of harmony and tonality in this period.

4.35 - 5.00pm: Answers
  • Considering subjects for the 5-mark and 10-mark analysis questions; melody, texture, rhythm.
