ABOUT THIS COURSE

This exciting new course explores the drivers behind poor behaviour in the Languages classroom which can lead to student disengagement and underperformance. The course is aimed at teachers who are seeking to re-engage their students who lack motivation and those educators looking to raise the profile of Languages amongst their students. Addressing the issues with negative attitudes towards Language learning, this course deals with the cycle of poor uptake and the perennial problem of underperforming, disaffected students. This course is designed to improve the teaching of students displaying challenging behaviour and a lack of enthusiasm to ensure that they are given the platform to participate positively and achieve well.

  • How the introduction long term rewards can change the mentality of even the most disruptive pupils
  • Implementing your own successful Languages rewards system – a step by step guide
  • Analysing current methods of learning vocabulary – how do we currently expect students to learn vocabulary and are we willing to modify our approach?
  • Exploring the benefits of low stakes quizzes – using them with impact in mind rather than as a “gimmick”
  • Enabling good behaviour by implementing effective organisation strategies for even the most disorganised students

COURSE LEADER

Jonathan Mumford is a consultant and Professional Tutor in education who works at Liverpool Hope University delivering ITT training. A current AQA examiner, he has taught French and Spanish for 16 years in in a mixed comprehensive school in Merseyside with the last 8 of those as Head of Languages.

He has a proven track record of outstanding GCSE teaching in the languages classroom having achieved top grades consistently, spending over 12 years in an Ofstedrated Outstanding school. His passion is teaching and learning and a particular area of focus is enthusing and inspiring language students to achieve well and thrive.
