ABOUT THIS COURSE
Explore the principles and benefits of Quality First Teaching in enhancing Teaching & Learning. The session will focus on high impact evidence based QFT strategies and how these can be implemented as classroom practitioners. We will also discuss how to plan, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of QFT strategies based on student performance.

- Definition and principles of quality first teaching
- The history of quality first teaching
- The cognitive science behind quality first teaching
- QFT & The ‘Three Waves of intervention’ Model
4.30pm: Quality First Teaching – High Impact Evidence Base Strategies
- SOW – Small step planning to embed strategies into your day-to-day practice.
- Plan for Error – Self-reflection. Proactive and reactive approaches.
- Assessment for learning strategies- creative and engaging ways to question and assess your learners.
- Metacognition and Self-regulation – strategies to develop independent learners.
- Vocabulary – Explicitly decoding command words and encouraging the use of subject specific terminology.
- Application of relevant and explicit examples
- Ensure 100% participation – Creative strategies to motivate and engage your learners.
- Differentiation – Stretch and challenging the more able learners.
- Subject Knowledge – Ensuring we are experts within our field and going beyond the specification.
- PCK – Aiming for excellence designing a curriculum fit for purpose.
5.00pm: Assessing and reflecting on QFT strategies
- Tools and methods for assessing the effectiveness of QFT strategies and impact on learning.
- Reflect and refine strategies to improve T&L to raise performance.
