Have you just started out as a teacher and are new to the profession? This new course, part of our ‘Guide for Early Career Teachers’ range provides new PE teachers with essential knowledge and skills for effective physical education teaching. It includes foundational PE principles, adaptive practice/ differentiation strategies, PEdagogical models and techniques, assessment methods and exam-level preparation for GCSE and A-Level.

  • Understanding how to meet the diverse prior learning and needs of your classes
  • Adapting activities for varying skill levels
  • Inclusive practices to ensure every child thrives in physical education

COURSE LEADER

Will Swaithes is the Education Director at PE Scholar, an experienced teacher, teacher educator and leader of teaching and learning. With over 20 years’ experience in education, a Specialist Leader of Education (SLE) for Redhill Academy, previous Head of Physical Education and Achievement for Youth Sport Trust (YST), previous Assistant Head for Teaching and Learning and author of an OCR GCSE PE textbook. He is currently Curriculum Design Lead for a project PE Scholar are doing for Oak National Academy and was previously Senior Lecturer in Physical Education at Birmingham City University leading the secondary PGCE programme and continues to contribute to that programme and Initial Teacher Education at several other institutions including Loughborough and Buckingham universities. He achieved Advanced Skills Teacher (AST) status in 2006 and also holds a master’s in educational leadership and has a reputation for high-quality consultancy services, mentoring support and training with an ambition to ensure PE stands for Positive Experiences for all children in all schools.
