ABOUT THIS WEBINAR

Join GCSE Geography expert examiner, teacher and Head of Department, Jon Briggs for an opportunity to really develop exam techniques and skills that will ensure progression to the higher levels of the mark scheme in the exam.

 

A particular focus will be given to how to extend performance in the 4m, 6m and 9m responses (with and without resources) – how students should aim to plan and structure questions. What content they should be adding to answers and how to link back to the question.

 

A secondary focus will be the qualities on what an outstanding response should look like.

Key things to prepare and to perfect in answering section A: Issues evaluation.  
  • What examiners are looking for in developing an excellent answer: breadth v depth.
  • Application of questions link to resource booklet
  • How to analyse and use information from figures within answers.
  • Tackling the 9m option question.
  • Student Activity: Reviewing what makes a L3 answer.
  • Key tips.
4.20 – 4.55pm
Key things to prepare and to perfect in answering section B: Fieldwork.
  • Unseen fieldwork verses seen fieldwork.
  • Examples of how to answer the range and type of questions seen in Section A.
  • Section B effective use of fieldwork
  • How to structure the perfect response to 9m questions.
  • Student Activity: Reviewing responses – what are the indicators of a L1, L2 and L3 response.
4.55 – 5.25pm
Final tips to do your very best. 5.25 – 5.30pm

WEBINAR LEADER

Jon Briggs has been tutoring A-Level and GCSE Geography students for over 10 years, clocking up well over 5,000 hours of tutoring, benefitting students across the private and state sectors from places a far afield as Hong Kong, Dubai, Malaysia, and the USA. He has been a teacher for nearly 30 years in both the state and private sector, with over 21 years of his career as either a lead practitioner, head of department and faculty. Since 2002 he has been an exam and team leader for GCSE and A-Level for a range of exam boards (AQA, Edexcel and CIE).  He loves the subject, whether it be Physical or Human Geography and enjoys working with students of all abilities to prepare them for exam success!
