Conference Aims:
“With a modular approach, youngsters felt they had a second chance, they took one module didn’t do particularly well and did it again. The focus was on doing exams rather than on the quality of teaching and on in-depth study over the period of two years.” Michael Wilshaw, HMCI, January 2013
This highlights just one of the many challenges ahead for Sixth Form leaders, a move away from modular exams and a greatly increased inspection focus on teaching and learning and final academic results. The 6th Annual Keynote Sixth Form Conference is once again presented as a two day event to reflect the huge array of changes and challenges facing Sixth Form leaders over the coming months and years. The conference brings together a wide spectrum of high profile speakers, leaders from highly successful Sixth Forms, outstanding Teaching and Learning practitioners and national experts in their field, to provide you with the widest breadth of practical strategies to overcome key challenges and raise academic standards.
We are delighted to welcome Matthew Coffey HMI, National Director, Learning & Skills, Ofsted, to clarify exactly what Ofsted has discovered, one year on, in the 2012 – 2013 inspections under the new framework.
Following the high profile academic success of Farnborough College in 2012 with a pass rate of 97% and a staggering 50% of students gaining a grade B or above, Assistant Principal, Helen Diffenthal will be a very welcome addition to this year’s conference to lead two workshops; Managing UCAS time effectively, and Data Management & OFSTED.
Victoria Musgrave, former Principal of Wymondham Academy and now Senior Consultant for ASCL will be updating delegates on the latest and upcoming changes for Sixth Forms. Victoria will then draw upon her experience and insight to provide strategies to practically manage the associated challenges.
Ali Ghalib, Senior Examiner and outstanding Sixth Form teacher will be welcomed back to the 2013 conference following an exceptionally well received set of workshops in 2012. This year, Ali will be leading three brand new practical teaching and learning based sessions.
Kim Wells, Director of Teaching and Learning at Caterham School will deliver two innovative and practical sessions on how to challenge the most able post-16 students and the ten key areas for outstanding teaching and learning in the Sixth Form.
Whether you take advantage of the discounted price to attend both days or if you choose to attend only one of the days, you will leave with new ideas, strategies and insight to manage change, overcome challenges and raise standards in the Sixth Form.
